I believe your idea will work. You storyboard is somewhat clear and your files are great. My only suggestion for you is having a close up on the man’s face.
I like your idea of the shadowman creeping up and strangling the dreamer. I also like the idea of the lines being turned on. Maybe they could be wavy lines kind of like Waking Life.
The shadow man creepeth, The room doesn't seem scary, but I guess it doesn't need to be. The feel of the 2D figures in the realistic environment works for me.I think the shadow man is not scary enough.
